Connect Dropbox to SignWell

The Dropbox integration lets you import files from Dropbox into SignWell and automatically save completed signed documents back to Dropbox.

Once connected, you can choose files from Dropbox when creating a document in SignWell. This is helpful if your agreements, contracts, forms, or other documents are already stored in Dropbox.

Connect Dropbox

To connect Dropbox:

Navigate to Settings and select the Integrations tab. Then choose Dropbox and click Connect

If not yet logged into Dropbox, you'll be prompted to sign in to your Dropbox account and authorize SignWell:

You can also connect Dropbox directly from the new-document flow. If Dropbox is not connected yet, clicking the Dropbox option will prompt you to connect right there:

Import files from Dropbox

To import files from Dropbox into a SignWell document:

Click New Document from your Documents dashboard.

Select Dropbox as your file source (alongside local upload and Google Drive):

Browse your Dropbox files and select the file you want to use:

Click Choose to import the file into SignWell.

From there, you continue with the normal SignWell document flow - add recipients, place fields, and send for signature.

Selecting multiple files

You can select multiple files from Dropbox in a single import. All selected files will be combined into one SignWell document for sending:

Each file is validated individually for file type and size. If one file fails, you can continue with the files that were successfully imported or remove the failed file.

Supported file types

Dropbox imports follow SignWell's standard supported file types and upload requirements. For the current list, see Preparing and Uploading Documents.

Save completed documents to Dropbox

When Dropbox is connected, completed signed PDFs can be saved back to Dropbox automatically.

By default, SignWell saves completed documents to a Dropbox folder named:  SignWell - Signed

The signed file is saved as a PDF once all recipients have completed the document:

Save-back is enabled by default after you connect Dropbox. You can turn it off or change the save folder from your Dropbox integration settings (see below).

Manage your Dropbox settings

To manage your Dropbox integration settings, go to Settings > Integrations > Dropbox

SignWell - Google Chrome 2026-07-16 at 9.33.54 AM

From here you can:

  • See your connection status and which Dropbox account is connected.
  • Turn save-back on or off without disconnecting Dropbox.
  • View your current Dropbox save folder.
  • Change the Dropbox folder where completed signed PDFs are saved:

Turning save-back off prevents future completed documents from being saved to Dropbox. Files that were already saved to Dropbox remain unchanged. Changing the save folder only affects future documents - previously completed documents are not moved.

Disconnect Dropbox

To disconnect Dropbox:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Integrations.
  3. Choose Dropbox.
  4. Click Disconnect

After disconnecting, you will no longer be able to import documents from Dropbox or automatically save completed PDFs back to Dropbox unless you reconnect the integration. Any documents that are already in progress will continue through the normal SignWell signing process.

Common questions

Does connecting Dropbox automatically send my documents?

No. Connecting Dropbox only lets you import files from Dropbox and save completed PDFs back to Dropbox.

Are Dropbox files synced with SignWell after import?

No. SignWell imports a copy of the selected file. Changes made later in Dropbox will not update the SignWell document.

Do recipients need Dropbox access?

No. Recipients sign through SignWell as usual.

Can I still upload files from my computer or Google Drive?

Yes. Dropbox is an additional import option. You can still upload documents directly from your computer or from Google Drive.

What happens if my Dropbox save folder is deleted?

If your configured folder is no longer available, SignWell will save the completed PDF to the default SignWell - Signed folder instead and notify you to update your folder settings. The signed PDF is always available in SignWell.

What happens if Dropbox save-back fails?

Your signed document is always available in SignWell, even if save-back to Dropbox fails. SignWell will notify you if a save-back fails so you can reconnect or update your Dropbox settings.

Can I use Dropbox shared folders or team folders?

You can import from and save to any Dropbox location available to your connected Dropbox account, including shared folders.

Does each team member need to connect their own Dropbox?

Yes. Each SignWell user connects their own Dropbox account. One user's Dropbox connection is not shared with other workspace members.
